Law firms. Traffic law is a highly specialised field and few law firms specialise in this field - probably because there is not a lot of money in it. The problem is that this does not help much when people are arrested and charged for transgressions of traffic law that constitute a criminal offence. Inadequate or no representation in court can find you being found guilty and lumbered with a hefty sentence which may also involve jail time. When you are arrested, you will be jailed in police cells until you are processed and this can often involve spending extended periods of time in police cells before you are released on bail. You will then have to stand trial and if found guilty, will receive a sentence commensurate with the magistrate's feelings on the crime for which you have been found guilty. Whilst jail time may not be imposed on a first offence, hefty fines (up to R15,000 for speeding) are imposed, but more importantly, you will find yourself being given a permanent criminal record. To date, we have found only one law firm that does specialise in criminal law, but more specifically in offences related traffic law.
